[ Sustainability ] 2025 report | Real commitments

Growing responsibly. Measuring to improve.

We build environmental, social and governance criteria into the Group’s decisions and operations, tracking performance and publishing validated indicators.

To maximise impact, sustainability has to be present across the whole value chain. The Group builds these principles into every area of activity, promoting solutions that are more efficient, safer and better aligned with the challenges ahead – and publishes validated indicators only.

  • From design to operation, sustainability criteria guide the decisions of every area of activity in the Group.
  • Each indicator is measured, validated and reported in the annual report, so that progress can be tracked over time.

Principles
that guide
the growth.

Three principles behind the way sustainability is built into decisions, teams and results.

Alignment with the business

01

Sustainability is built into strategic, operational and commercial decisions, making sure that growth comes with environmental, social and economic responsibility.

A focus on people

02

Employees are valued through safety, training, well-being and skills development, building teams that are prepared, responsible and committed.

Delivery with impact

03

The Group tracks results, improves processes and sets future commitments, turning sustainability objectives into concrete, measurable action.

Approach

Building sustainability into management and operations.

  • Strategy – we weigh environmental, social and governance criteria when setting priorities, projects and investments.
  • Implementation – we apply practices suited to the operations, the workplaces and the different areas of the business.
  • Measurement – we track indicators, assess how they change and identify opportunities to improve.
  • Engagement – we promote dialogue with employees, clients, suppliers, partners and communities.

Building sustainability into the business.

We raise awareness and train the teams in safer, more efficient and more responsible practice.

We cut waste, promote reuse and recovery, and improve the control of water, energy and materials.

We track consumption, increase efficiency and integrate renewable generation where it is technically and economically appropriate.

We promote safe working conditions, qualification, equal opportunities and professional development.

We include compliance, ethics and responsibility criteria in the relationship with suppliers and partners.

We support initiatives aligned with the needs of the territories where the Group is present.

JAF | Clean energy

Clean energy, concrete commitments.

  • Renewable energy – the energy supplied comes from renewable sources (solar, wind, hydro and biomass).
  • Progressive reduction of emissions – a target adopted by JAF Renováveis in the study, supply and implementation of generation systems from renewable sources.
  • JAF H2 Verde – green hydrogen production to reduce the CO₂ footprint and decarbonise, adding value to the Região Norte (Distrito de Braga).
  • Renewable Energy Communities (CER) – generating, consuming, sharing, storing, selling and accessing energy from renewable sources, with environmental, economic and social benefits.

Top Management

Prevent, control and improve.

The environmental commitment is formalised in a policy defined by Top Management, geared to continuous improvement, legal compliance, resource efficiency and the reduction of environmental impact.

We meet the legal requirements and other commitments applicable to the business.

We identify environmental risks and put prevention and control measures in place.

We promote the responsible use of energy, water, materials and other resources.

We reduce waste production, ensure proper separation and send waste to authorised operators.

We involve employees and partners in applying good environmental practice.

We assess results and set actions to improve performance over time.

Social Responsibility

A sense of solidarity.

The social dimension takes shape in the Group’s Social Responsibility programme – support for the social, educational, cultural and environmental development of communities, seeking to act in areas where the public or private sector has more difficulty reaching.

See the Social Responsibility page →

Dialogue

Value shared with those who work with the Group.

Sustainability depends on collaboration between internal teams, suppliers, partners, licensed operators, public bodies and surrounding communities.

  • Employees – environmental awareness, safety and the adoption of good sustainability practice day to day.
  • Suppliers and partners – responsible relationships, focused on legal compliance, service quality and continuous improvement.
  • Licensed operators – sending waste to licensed waste-management operators, promoting recovery, reuse and recycling wherever possible.
  • Community and territory – an open relationship with surrounding communities, seeking balanced solutions to reduce impacts and create local value.
  • Regulators – compliance with environmental legal requirements and monitoring of how the standards applicable to the business evolve.
