Occupational
Health and Safety:
a culture built
every day.

Grupo JAF ran a session dedicated to Occupational Health and Safety, bringing different teams together to share thinking on prevention, defensive driving and safe behaviour, inside and outside the work context.

Safety does not depend on procedures, equipment or standards alone. Above all, it depends on the behaviours we repeat every day.

On 6 May, Grupo JAF ran an initiative dedicated to Occupational Health and Safety, involving employees from different areas in a moment of awareness and sharing that set out to bring distinct realities closer together: from the site to the office.

Prevention was at the centre of the session, with particular attention to safety behaviours at work, to road mobility and to the importance of recognising the impact of individual decisions on everyone’s safety.

From the site to the office, prevention is everyone’s responsibility

Working contexts can differ.

A construction site presents very different risks and demands from an office, from a journey by vehicle or from a visit to a facility.

But there is a principle common to all of them: prevention begins before an incident occurs.

The initiative set out to reinforce that idea with the teams, encouraging a more conscious attitude to risk and recalling the importance of building safe behaviours into the most routine tasks.

More than following procedures, it is about developing a culture in which each person recognises their part in protecting themselves, their colleagues and everyone they deal with in the course of their work.

Safety on the road too

Mobility is part of the daily routine of many roles within Grupo JAF.

Journeys between sites, facilities, clients and suppliers mean that road safety has to be understood as an extension of Occupational Health and Safety itself.

For that reason, defensive driving was one of the subjects covered during the initiative.

Anticipating hazardous situations, adapting speed to the conditions, keeping safe distances and eliminating distracted behaviour are essential principles for reducing the likelihood of accidents.

The message is simple: arriving safely is part of the job.

Driving more safely and more efficiently

The session also covered eco-driving, connecting safety, efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Driving that anticipates more and keeps a steadier pace, avoiding unnecessary acceleration and braking, can contribute at once to more efficient use of vehicles and to safer road use.

This approach shows how different dimensions of an organisation’s activity can be connected.

Safety, operational efficiency and sustainability should not be treated as isolated subjects. In many moments, a safer decision is also a more efficient and more responsible one.

Sharing experience with the GNR

The initiative also had the participation of representatives of the Guarda Nacional Republicana, who contributed to the awareness session with practical recommendations on road safety and mobility.

Sharing knowledge and experience made it possible to reinforce essential messages about prevention and to bring into the session concrete situations that are part of the daily reality of anyone on the roads.

The presence of the GNR added a specialist perspective on a subject that goes beyond the professional context and follows each employee into their personal life as well.

Safety as a habit

A safety culture is not built in a single day.

It is built through training, through sharing experience, through identifying risks and, above all, through repeating good practice.

Initiatives like this one create moments to stop, reflect and reinforce behaviours that can easily be forgotten in the routine.

At Grupo JAF, the aim is for safety to be understood less and less as an occasional obligation and more and more as a natural way of working.

Because prevention begins in the small decisions.

A culture built by everyone

Safety depends on the conditions we create, but also on the choices each person makes day by day.

The teams’ participation in this initiative represents precisely that collective commitment to safer working environments and to a culture of prevention increasingly present across the organisation.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped strengthen this culture in the daily life of Grupo JAF.
